UPDATE: Viral video star arrested in NJ man’s death

(CNN) — A homeless hitchhiker who achieved Internet celebrity by acting as a Good Samaritan with a hatchet was arrested at a Philadelphia bus depot Thursday in connection with the murder of a New Jersey attorney, authorities said.

Caleb Lawrence McGillvary, 24, known on Facebook and YouTube as “Kai the Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker,” is facing a murder charge in Union County, New Jersey, authorities said.

McGillvary was arrested Thursday evening at the Greyhound terminal by Philadelphia police after New Jersey authorities issued a public call for help in finding him, said Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

“I am grateful for the overwhelming response and dedicated effort by the public and law enforcement that led to this arrest,” Romankow said in a statement. “I believe that everyone is a little safer with this person off the streets.”

Parents sue state for choosing sex organs of hermaphrodite toddler

(CNN) — The adoptive parents of a child born with male and female organs say South Carolina mutilated their son by choosing a gender and having his male genitalia surgically removed.

The surgery took place when the child was 16 months old and a ward of the state, according to a lawsuit filed by the parents against three doctors and several members of the South Carolina Department of Social Services.

The child’s biological mother was deemed unfit, and the biological father had apparently abandoned him, according to the suit. So others made the decision.

The child, now 8 years old, feels more like a boy and “wants to be a normal boy,” said Pamela Crawford, the boy’s adoptive mother.

KC-area Wendy’s forced to close after inspector finds freezer broken

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A routine health inspection led to the discovery of several violations at the Wendy’s restaurant at 3803 Truman Road, and on Thursday the restaurant remained closed until it fixed the problems.

The inspector arrived at the restaurant Wednesday afternoon and found their walk-in cooler was not working.

They were told they cannot prepare, serve or sell food until they have repaired the cooler.

They were also told they must correct all other critical violations and submit a plan for how they will prevent this situation from re-occurring in the future.

In the inspection report, an employee was seen eating, drinking or using a form of tobacco in an area where food or equipment could be contaminated.

Temporary tags ruled fake

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City man is upset after discovering the temp tag, given to him by the used car lot where he bought his car, wasn’t legal.

Customer Daniel Knighten learned the truth about the temporary license tag on the car he bought earlier this month after it was towed by police.

Kansas City, Kan., police said they towed the car because it had an illegal temporary tag. Knighten, who had to pay $250 in tow fees, was furious.

He said he immediately went to the car lot that gave him the temp tag, Kansas City Wholesale Motors on Truman Road, and asked for his money back.

When the man running the car lot refused, Knighten called Fox 4 Problem Solvers.

Sporting KC expects injured star Bunbury back in June

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — For many athletes, It’s their greatest fear.

A career-ending injury can hit at any moment, and it nearly did for one of sporting Kansas City’s top goal-scorers.

Not every shot finds its target. Sporting Kansas City’s Teal Bunbury can’t take a chance on missing. His playing career depends on it.

“I won’t forget that day,” Bunbury said.

It was August 26th of last year, and Sporting KC was facing off with the New York Red Bulls. SKC was on the attack, and Bunbury tried tapping the ball away from the New York goalie.

“My left leg planted in the ground wrong and kind of snapped back,” Bunbury said. “It was pretty painful.”

It didn’t take team doctors long to discover the trouble — Bunbury had torn two ligaments in his left knee, and it would cost him most of a year’s worth of soccer.

Bogus Craigslist ad targets pastors, FOX 4

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — This week, FOX 4 discovered it was being falsely mentioned in a Craigslist ad dealing with a church raffle.

The ad said a Kansas City church was raffling off two trucks and that FOX 4 would announce the winners in July. However, that wasn’t true. After some investigating, we found several other suspicious issues with the posting.

Shortly before our 5 p.m. newscast, the post was pulled from the site by its author.

Other than FOX 4, Pastor Eric Cobbins and his four family members, who are also pastors, in the metro were affected by the post. The name “Pastor Cobbins” was attributed to the Church of God and Christ, who was holding the raffle. The Pastor Cobbins we spoke to said neither he nor his family members were involved, instead he believes it’s someone trying to capitalize on his family’s reputation.
